CRANIO-SACRAL THERAPY
Cranio-Sacral Therapy (CST) is an exceptionally gentle, hands-on method of assessing and enhancing the Cranio-Sacral System, the environment in which the brain and spinal cord function.
|
 |
Because it acts on the deepest structures and organs of the nervous system, any imbalance or dysfunction within this system will effect the body's motor, pain and co-ordination mechanisms, the digestive sytem, the respiratory system, heart function and the endocrine system which is responsible for the secretion of hormones into the blood stream.
In many cases treatment will result in helpful movement of unresolved emotional issues which may play a major role in inhibiting good physical health.
Receiving Cranio-Sacral Therapy tends to be very relaxing and indeed positively pleasurable. Ignored or hidden problems are as often resolved as those that help was actually sought for. |
|
Based on the Osteopathic theories of William Sutherland, DO, in the early 1900's, CST has developed through research by Dr. John Upledger over the past several decades. Dr. Upledger has further refined cranio-sacral therapy and is largely responsible for its introduction to and acceptance by the medical community.
Similar to the cardiovascular system, the cranio-sacral system has its own unique rhythm that can be felt throughout the body. In optimal health, this rhythm moves freely but when there has been stress, disease or trauma within the body, movement will be impeded. |

|
| The practitioner uses touch generally no heavier than 5 grams ( about the weight of a 20p coin ) to assess the quality of this rhythm and trace its source. Simply by testing its range of motion is usually enough for any restriction to self-correct. The practitioner merely acts as a 'barrier' against which the body's own capacity to heal and regenerate are amplified. |
|
| By complementing the body's natural healing process, CST is increasingly used as a preventative health measure for its ability to bolster resistance to disease and is effective for a wide range of medical problems associated with pain and dysfunction, including: |
 |
- Migraine Headaches
- Chronic Neck and Back Pain
- Colic
- Scoliosis
- Learning Disabilities
- Autism
- Chronic Fatigue
- Emotional Difficulties
- Stress and Tension-Related Problems
- Fibromyalgia and other Connective-Tissue Disorders
- Temporomandibular Joint Syndrome ( TMJ )
|
|
| A therapy in its own right, CST may also be combined with other treatments such as Hellerwork. These therapies beautifully complement oneanother as they work with the body's fascial system. An area which is further covered and completed by Visceral Manipulation which expands to cover all the organs within our body. |
